Today over 100 business leaders who collectively employ over 500,000 people stated that the Government’s economic plan is working. These bosses range from those who lead large companies to others who run small and medium sized enterprises. They all believe that any change of government would put investment and jobs at risk.
Over the last 5 years 1,900,000 more jobs have been created. We can see that locally in Beckenham; for instance those claiming job seekers allowance dropped from 801 to 561 between November 2013 and November 2014.
Our national economy is currently growing faster than another other Western industrialised country and there are now more people employed in the United Kingdom than ever before.
Some say that the growth in jobs has all been using the Zero Hours Contract system but that is simply untrue. Over 75 per cent of the 1.9 million new jobs have not been on zero hours contracts. In reality only 2 per cent of the total work force works under such conditions and many people want that style of earning a living – such as students who cannot fulfil the requirements of a fixed and formal contract.
In short our economy is on the mend and I want that to continue under a Conservative Government after the General Election on 7th May. It will not if the Labour Party takes hold of our economic reins.
