Last week Bob Stewart flew to Cyprus for a quick visit to our troops there. Whilst on the ground he toured the RAF's 903 Expeditionary Air Wing (EAW) which is conducting operations above Iraq daily from RAF Akrotiri. The backbone of 903 EAW was the Tornado aircraft which can be used both for reconnaissance and offensive air operations. He also went to visit 1st Battalion the Princess of Wales' Royal Regiment based in Dhekelia which is providing training teams in Kurdistan. Whilst on the island Bob was also able to walk a small part of the Green Line in Nicosia. That section of No Man's Land between the Turkish Army and the Greek Cypriots was controlled by soldiers from 3rd Battalion the Royal Scots (Black Watch). The rather rushedtwo day visit over Bob flew back to UK in an RAF Voyager aircraft; he was photographed in its cockpit.
