At 4pm on Thursday 10th September Bob Stewart attended an incredibly moving Memorial Service for Sir Philip Goodhart, Beckenham's longest serving MP. Sir Philip died on 5th July. He had represented Beckenham at Westminster for 35 years - from a by-election in 1957 until his retirement in 1992, The ceremony was held at St George's Church in Notting Hill. It was packed out and a number of his friends from the constituency were present; notably Mrs Joy Harris OBE, who was not just a lifelong friend of Sir Philip's but is also Patron of the Beckenham Conservative Association and Councillor Nicholas Bennett, who also served as an MP for Sir Philip's last five years in the House of Commons.
