According to the BBC we now have 268 confirmed cases in Bromley Borough, out of a 331,096 local population.
Bromley now has an Emergency Control Centre (BECC) which coordinates the local fightback against coronavirus. I gather the BECC will be manned 24 hours a day until the end of the crisis. Ade Adetosoye, Bromley’s Chief Executive is the so-called GOLD Leader locally. I must say I have always been very impressed by Ade and I’m sure we are in the best possible hands.
From the BECC, run with the help of 25 members of Bromley Council staff, some 3,500 local volunteers are being coordinated. I am sure there will be a few bumps along the way but I think the Council has put maximum effort into getting itself shaken down for the current situation and have done remarkably well.
In Bromley Borough the Government has deemed there are over 700 residents who required especial help. This list has been drawn up on the advice of local doctors and the NHS. Those on that list are being supplied with food deliveries directly by central government. Of course, there are others who need help too. Bromley Council reckons there are possibly 2,000 – 3,000 others and the BECC is coordinating that who need assistance as well.
It’s really good news that a breathing aid that can help keep coronavirus patients out of intensive care has been created in under a week.
University College London engineers worked with Mercedes Formula One to build the device, which delivers oxygen to the lungs without needing a ventilator. It can be used outside intensive care units and is less invasive too.
The BBC reports that 40 of the new devices have been delivered to University College London Hospital and to three other London hospitals.
If trials go well, up to 1,000 of the so called Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machines can be produced per day by Mercedes-AMG-HPP, beginning in a week's time. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has already given its approval for their use.
That is tremendous and shows what we can do when the chips are down.
