Climate Change Debate

I spoke in this week's Climate Change Debate as follows:

I fully accept that mankind is changing the earth’s climate. I have always worried about how we are altering the air we breathe, but I feel our actions are now turning the weather.

Re-elected as MP for Beckenham

Thank you to everyone who has supported me in the General Election.

I am delighted to have been re-elected as Member of Parliament for Beckenham on 12 December.  Being a Member of Parliament is the biggest privilege of my life and I remain acutely aware of that fact. 

Monday 4 November

Today in Westminster Sir Lindsay Hoyle (photo) was selected as the new Speaker of the House of Commons. It took 5 hours and 4 rounds of voting to get a result. But from my point of view Lindsay Hoyle will make a very good Speaker.

Sunday 3 November

Last night I attended the 5th Beckenham South Scout Group Charity Fireworks Display in the Croydon Road Recreation Ground. The scouts have organised this event for the last 4 years but it is actually the 72nd Anniversary of it being run.

Saturday 2 November

It was not a great start to the day. England lost the Rugby World Cup Final to South Africa in Japan by 20 points. But, honestly and sadly, South Africa were the better team.

Here we go again - unfortunately!

I got it wrong.  Really I thought Parliament would agree to the Draft Withdrawal Bill  negotiated by the Government with the European Union.

BREXIT: SITUATION REPORT

Yesterday I voted against Sir Oliver Letwin's amendment to withhold parliamentary approval on a deal with the European Union until legislation needed to implement it is approved in the House of Commons.

The Big Catch

I was a bit surprised when lunching in The Big Catch on Beckenham High Street earlier today (11 October). My surprise came from the fact that one of the people I talked to was adamant that we needed to increase Defence spending.
