On Sunday 18 September Colonel Bob Stewart DSO visited the Audregnies battlefield in Belgium where 1st Battalion the Cheshire Regiment was reduced from 1,000 soldiers to just 200 in one day during the First World War. It was the same Battalion that Bob commanded when in the Army. The Cheshires were annihilated on 23 August 1914 whilst facing an entire German Corps. Bob is shown in the photograph embracing the monument which remembers what happened to his predecessors in the Cheshires over 102 years ago.
